Bullet Resistant

Protecting my new PowerBook is a serious business…

In a effort not to destroy my new PowerBook (like I did the previous one) I plan on taking some precautions. Aside from the obvious steps of treating it a little better (and cleaning it occasionally) I’ve decided protection has to feature high on my list of priorities.

“…I’ve got a laptop to steal…”

I’m not a computer bag kind of guy, partly because I just don’t travel with a laptop that often but mainly because I firmly believe nothing says “I’ve got a laptop to steal” like a laptop bag. The upshot of this is that I’m going to put the PowerBook inside whatever bag I happen to travel with and it’s not necessarily going to be protected by said bag… enter the “Vyper M”.

Despite the name this is a great sleeve. I think it’s technically a sleeve because it doesn’t have a handle, but it feels a bit more rugged than most of the sleeves I’ve seen. The outer shell is made from “Ballistic Nylon”, which is the stuff they used to make bullet-proof vests during WWII. It’s now used extensively in luggage since Kevlar replaced it as the bullet resistant material of choice—it also sounds cool which is important…

“…used to make bullet-proof vests…”

Inside the tough exterior is a cuddly non-scratch texture to comfort the sides of your naked PowerBook. It’s a snug fit so you’ll have to make other arrangements for the rest of your stuff.

The Vyper is made by Booq who have a range of laptop goodies including Vypers for all of Apple’s laptops. You can buy online in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

“…I should hire a bodyguard…”

Given my new serious attitude to protection I’ll also be getting a micro-fibre sleeve and screen protector to compliment the Vyper. And AppleCare just in case. Perhaps I should hire a bodyguard…
